Our Rebrand Launch: More Than a New Logo

Ahead of celebrating Eisteddfod y Garreg Las on our doorstep in North Pembrokeshire, August 1st-8th, we've been busily working on a new-look Cwm Arian.

The new logo reflects an exciting, fresh look that was created by talented local designer Lisa Devonald. We hope you love it as much as we do.

But the rebrand also represents a lot of work behind the scenes, with the team reflecting on who we are as an organisation and making plans and strategies for where we're going.   

What's new?

Our journey began in 2011 with our community wind turbine in Llanfyrnach, North Pembrokeshire. Our name, Cwm Arian Renewable Energy, reflected our specific focus.

Today, we are much more than a renewable energy organisation and, while the clean energy and income the turbine generates helps fund grassroots projects right here in our local communities, our focus and ambition has expanded.

We now run a variety of inclusive, accessible projects and activities designed to boost local wellbeing, protect nature, and build resilience for generations to come. We are bringing this vision to life across three key areas: Land, Energy & Community.

Through our Land projects, we’re nurturing our local landscape so nature and communities can thrive together, with a host of courses, workshops and volunteer opportunities to develop your skills.

With our Energy projects, we’re helping people and organisations access affordable, efficient energy so that we can build a resilient, green future — from free expert energy advice for homeowners, to guidance and technical support for upgrading the energy system in your local community space.

Final, through our Community projects, we're running a variety of workshops, talks and activities through our vibrant hub Y Stiwdio, and we support community action and build resilience through small grants for local projects.

What's in a name?

Cwm Arian, meaning "Silver Valley" in Welsh, is the celebration of a landscape where natural resources have long shaped local lives — from the historic silver lead mines of Llanfyrnach and the stone quarries of Glog, to the old Cardi Bach railway that once connected them.

Nestled in the Preseli Hills under the watchful eye of Frenni Fawr, "Cwm Arian" was adopted as a shared identity by the communities of Llanfyrnach, Glog, Hermon, and Tegryn to help shape our collective future.

We started as a renewable energy group, and although our work has grown, we remain dedicated to ensuring our local resources always benefit the people and places they belong to.

Reflection & Learning

Much of the work behind the rebrand has been about us reflecting and learning as a team and an organisation to understand how best to serve our local communities.

Part of this has focused on strengthening Cwm Arian’s understanding of, and engagement with, Welsh-speaking communities across North Pembrokeshire.

We are one of 15 organisations across the UK participating in the Connection Trailblazers programme and through this work Cwm Arian is exploring how community organisations can build stronger, more meaningful relationships with the people they serve.

Our project lead, Sophie Jenkins, said:

"Cwm Arian is focussed on improving engagement with Welsh-speaking communities and addressing barriers that can sometimes exist between environmental and renewable energy projects and rural Welsh-speaking audiences".

Through community focus groups, research, reflection and organisational review, we are identifying practical ways to improve how we listen, communicate, and co-produce projects with local people. These activities are funded through the Connection Trailblazers programme, delivered by Locality and DTA Wales with support from the National Lottery Community Fund.

"This work is helping us develop stronger relationships with Welsh-speaking and farming communities, ensuring local knowledge, culture, and priorities play a central role in shaping future activities."

So, the Cwm Arian rebrand symbolises our commitment to better serving our local communities and we can't wait to celebrate it with you at the Eisteddfod y Garreg Las.
