We are delighted to announce the launch of a new solar array in Llanfynach, North Pembrokeshire, led by our Unlocker Project. Set to be installed alongside the existing wind turbine, this development marks an important step forward in providing clean, locally generated energy for the community. The project is being driven by Michael Shakib and Gerry O’Brien, and forms part of a wider effort to create sustainable energy solutions that benefit both people and the environment.
The new solar array will harness energy from the sun, converting it into electricity that can be used locally. When combined with the existing wind turbine, the site will generate renewable energy from both sun and wind, making it more efficient and reliable throughout the year. This dual approach helps to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, lower carbon emissions, and support the transition to a greener, more resilient energy system in North Pembrokeshire.
Funding for this work has been made possible by Energy Redress, with additional support from Ynni Cymru to ensure that village halls can also benefit from renewable energy installations. Together, these contributions are helping to expand access to clean energy across the community, ensuring that the benefits are widely shared.
Alongside the energy development, care is being taken to protect and enhance the natural environment at the Llanfynach site. Through a cooperative agreement with the landowner, biodiversity improvements are being introduced to support local wildlife. Existing hedgerows are being carefully managed and strengthened, while new habitat features such as log piles and bird and bat boxes are being added. These measures will help create a richer, more supportive environment for native species, ensuring that the site contributes positively to nature as well as energy production.
Work on the solar array is set to begin next month, and there is great anticipation for this new source of clean energy to come to life. More than just an energy project, it represents a long-term commitment to sustainability, community resilience, and environmental care.
By bringing together renewable energy generation and biodiversity enhancement, this project reflects a thoughtful and forward-looking approach—one that supports both the needs of the community today and the well-being of the environment for years to come.
As well as developing the solar site itself, the Unlocker team is also working with local community spaces to help them install solar panels and battery storage systems. These improvements aim to reduce energy costs and create more reliable, sustainable income streams for community initiatives.

What an exciting initiative from Cwm Arian! Combining solar and wind energy on the same site is a brilliant example of how communities can take genuine ownership of their energy future. The biodiversity work alongside the renewable energy project — protecting hedgerows, adding log piles and habitat boxes — really shows that sustainability isn't just about cutting emissions, but nurturing the whole ecosystem around us. It's also a great reminder of how green energy projects require careful coordination at every stage, much like how a supply chain management sample demonstrates the importance of planning, logistics, and collaboration to deliver real-world outcomes efficiently. Seeing a rural Welsh community lead the way like this is genuinely inspiring and a model others should…
Such a cute and creative crochet project! The Christmas Characters blanket looks like a fun holiday craft, especially with the adorable elf panel in week five. It’s inspiring to see projects that bring creativity and joy during the season. After crafting, I’d probably unwind at fiesta tequila bar swansea with friends.
