A New Role for Sophie!

Sophie has spent the past decade working in the third sector in Pembrokeshire, focusing on community engagement and development through projects rooted in nature, community, and Welsh culture and heritage. Some of you may have come across her along the way—perhaps planting a few thousand apple trees in the St Dogmaels area, with your nose in a hedgerow looking for bumblebees, or out in the Preseli Mountains exploring the rich layers of history and meaning woven into the landscape.
Coming from a hill-farming background and with a strong connection to both nature and Welsh communities, Sophie has spent the last few years developing a more holistic understanding of the challenges facing people, farming, and the natural environment in rural North Pembrokeshire. She often finds herself walking a sometimes rocky path between protecting nature and advocating for rural communities : helping to build understanding between the two, and working towards positive, practical change.

Over the past couple of years, Sophie has been working at Cwm Arian across a range of projects: from the CoedUNO site in Tegryn to the Nyfer am Byth project, as well as helping to strengthen Welsh language engagement within the organisation.
In her new role as Outreach and Engagement Coordinator at Cwm Arian, she’ll be opening up more opportunities to share the organisation’s work with a wider audience, reaching those who may not yet be connected to what we do. The role will also involve building new partnerships and supporting plans for a community share offer for the turbine.
“I’m really thrilled to have been offered this new opportunity at Cwm Arian, to further engage with communities and share the fantastic work of the organisation on a broader scale in an area that I am passionate about.”
