Step Into the Stories of the Preseli Woodlands

Ancient woodlands are full of life, but they also hold stories. Every winding path, place name and old tree is part of a landscape shaped by generations of people who lived, worked and spoke Welsh. This July, we're inviting you to step into that living heritage with a unique day in the woods.

Dod yn ôl at fy nghoed / To Return to My Trees is an immersive event exploring the connections between language, landscape and belonging. Hosted by Cwm Arian as part of the Preseli Woodlands Project, the day will take place in the beautiful ancient woodland of Allt Tŷ Canol, near Brynberian, and will be led by modern-day Welsh Druid, author and celebrant Deborah Rose Hālani.

Through storytelling, woodland walks, creativity and conversation, you'll explore how the Welsh language has grown from the land itself, how local traditions have been shaped by nature, and what it means to feel connected to the place we call home.

You don't need to speak Welsh or know anything about Druidry to take part. Whether you've lived in Pembrokeshire all your life, recently made Wales your home, or are simply curious about the stories woven through our landscapes, everyone is welcome.

As Sophie Jenkins, Outreach & Engagement Coordinator at Cwm Arian, explains:

"Conservation isn't only about protecting species and habitats. It's also about nurturing our relationship with the places we live. Whether someone is rediscovering a part of their own heritage or beginning a relationship with Cymru for the first time, we hope this day creates space to connect more deeply with the land, with culture and with community."

The event is part of the Preseli Woodlands Project, which is restoring ancient woodlands while helping people discover the rich cultural heritage rooted within them. Because caring for nature isn't just about protecting wildlife—it's also about understanding the history, language and traditions that make these places so special.
