We’re really pleased to share some positive news: Cartrefi Clyd is back on the Green List, which means the project can once again offer its trusted retrofit services to a wider range of homeowners across Wales.
Cartrefi Clyd is a Wales-wide partnership made up of community energy groups and social enterprises with many years of experience in energy efficiency and retrofit advice. The partnership includes CARE, DEG, Lightfoot, Ynni Llŷn, Awel Aman Tawe and RDE. All partners are based locally in Wales, which means they understand the country’s varied housing stock, climate, and regional challenges.
At the heart of Cartrefi Clyd is a commitment to getting retrofit right the first time. The service focuses on reducing risk and avoiding wasted resources or unintended consequences that can arise from poorly planned work. To do this, Cartrefi Clyd follows the government-backed Whole House Approach, using trained Assessors and Co-ordinators. This approach looks at the home as a complete system, helping ensure improvements are suitable, effective and long-lasting.
The service is part-funded by the Energy Industry Voluntary Redress Scheme, allowing Cartrefi Clyd to offer independent, expert support that puts householders first. Now that the project is back on the Green List, it can take on more properties and work with more homeowners again, subject to demand and assessor availability. Discounted services are expected to remain available through to summer 2025.
This is about more than upgrades and assessments — it’s about warmer homes, lower energy bills, and giving people the confidence to make informed decisions about their homes. We’re excited to see the positive impact this will have for households and communities across Wales.
