Studio for a Community
The Studio project finally began in July 2021, with a party to say Farewell to the Garej!
By September 2021 we hope to have the frame, roof and walls in place.
Keep an eye on CARE's Facebook page to find out more about progress.
CARE has been awarded Welsh Government, EU and Lottery funding to develop Garej y Sgwar - an old industrial plot in Hermon - to create a peaceful, publicly accessible space for creative projects.
We will be creating a new building from recycled and natural materials wherever possible, incorporating low-cost energy saving and generation technology into the design, and making an outdoor space to grow food and park vehicles.
The aim is that local people will also get involved, to use their ideas and skills, and learn new skills around alternative building practices and materials.
CARE hopes to use the Studio in our work with other local community projects - for example for art exhibitions, for capturing local histories, and creating work which helps to encourage behaviour-change in use of energy and resources as well as promoting healthy sustainable lifestyles in general. The studio could also be space for practical creative work where wellies are welcome... what would you use it for?
