In Brief:
The school has been awarded several grants and lots of community donations for an energy-efficient refurb and new timber-frame extension.
There will be room for offices, meeting spaces, events and performance.
Grants were given for a best-practice eco-build which will be cheap to run and always cosy!
More Detail:
Back in 2004 the strong need for a community meeting space was voiced at the Planed community forums. By 2005 there was an action plan for alternative uses of the school in case the campaign against its closure failed. Sadly all the GREAT efforts by locals could not prevent it and the school was closed in 2007.
However, this did pull people together. We managed to buy the school and have since fundraised over £400,000 to renovate and extend it as a Community Resource Centre…
Phases of development:
The development of Hermon's Community Resource Centre is taking part in seperate phases, and is currently in its second phase: Building the Extension:
Phase 2: Building the Extension.
Status: Ongoing
The detailed architectural plans have been discussed by the community and we are now preparing to build the new exention to the site.
The old canteen kitchen has been demolished and the new 150 seated hall and stage area will be built.

Thank you to all who purchased shares to help purchase the site from the local authority. There is now a community run cooperative developing a social enterprise for ensuring the sustainability of the site.
